Bihari Aloo Chokha Recipe | How to make Bihari Aloo Chokha

Aloo Chokha is popular in Bengal and Bihar both states. Infact, many bengali recipes are also have a bihari twist as well and Aloo chokha is one among those.

What i assumeis that the panch phoron is the one ingredient which makes a difference in bengali regional and bihari regional cuisine.

Keeping that in mind, i prepared aloo chokha in bihari style. This is a simple and easy recipe for aloo chokha from bihari cuisine.

Ingredients for Bihari Aloo Chokha Recipe

  • Boiled Potato : 2
  • Onion : 1 medium (chopped finely)
  • Ginger Garlic Paste : 1 tsp
  • Green chilli : 2 (finely chopped)
  • Coriander Leaves : 1 tbsp
  • Cooking oil : 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Mango Powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds : 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin powder : 1/2 tsp
  • How to make Bihari style Aloo Chokha

    Break the boiled potatoes into big pieces.

    Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Allow mustard seeds to crackle.

    Add chopped onion and fry till it turns pink in color.

    Add ginger garlic paste and fry for 30 seconds on low flames.

    Add dry spices turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and salt. Fry for a while.

    Add mashed potatoes and mix the spices well. Cook for 2 minutes.

    Add mango powder and mix well.

    Aloo chokha is ready. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

    Serve it hot with chapati / paratha.
