Rava Uttapam Recipe

Uttapam is a south indian cuisine breakfast item. Though traditionaly it is made of mix of dals, but that needs a lot of preparation. Rava Uttapam is the instant uttapam. It can be prepared hardly in 20 minutes.

This is an easy to do recipe of rava uttapam, as it does not need any soaked and grinded pulsed. As far as taste is concerned, there is not much of compromosing. Even few people like the rava uttapam more that the traditional dal reice uttapam.

Preparation for Rava Uttapam Recipe

  • Rava (Semolina) : 1/2 cup
  • Curd : 1/2 cup
  • Chopped Green Chillies : 2-3
  • Salt to taste
  • Ginger : 1/2 inch
  • Chopped Onion : 3-4(medium)
  • Chopped Coriander Leaves : 1/2 cup
  • Oil : to fry uttapam
  • How to Make Rava Uttapam

    Make a batter of rava and curd and keep that aside for 10 minutes. Check the consistency, it should be easily pouring. If not, add water to it. Add salt to it as well.

    Mix chopped onion, green Chillies, coriander leaves and chopped ginger in a different bowl.

    Now take a flat tawa or dosa tawa and heat it. Put a ladle full of batter on tha dosa tawa. Spread a handfull of the onion mix on top.

    Flip it when the bottom side is done.

    When it is cooked from both the side, take it from tawa and clean the tawa with lemon juice.

    Repeat the process for rest of the batter.

    Recipe for Rava Uttapam

    Take sooji or semolina. If it is a thin semoline like one common in north india, mix it in curd. It dissolves easily, but in south india there are many types of semolina available and few are really big sooji dana. IN case of that, mix it with curd and blend it to make a fine paste. The consistency of the rava batter should be flowing but not too watery. Adjust the water now.

    Chop onion, green chilli, coriander leaves and ginger in a different bowl and mix well. Add salt in the mix now but do not leave this vegetable mix for long else it will become watery.

    Heat a tawa and spread a ladle full of rava batter on the hot tawa. Spread a handful of onion mix on the top of the batter on dosa tawa.

    Now flip the side of rava uttapam and cook from the bottom as well. This is an easy recipe for rava onion uttapam. Once rava uttapam is taken off from the tawa, sprinkle lemon juice over the tawa and clean it with a cottoon cloth and repeat the process for rest of the batter.

    Serve hot rava uttapam with coconut chutney and red chutney.
